HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Regional Water Authority is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year.
To mark the major milestone, it is looking back at its history.
The dam on the Mill River that forms Lake Whitney is one of the first pieces of infrastructure built by what is now the Regional Water Authority.
“The Regional Water Authority traces its roots back to the New Haven Water Company, which was originally chartered 175 years ago in 1849,” said John Triana, the Authority’s real estate manager and unofficial historian.
