NEW HAVEN, Conn. — March 22, 2025 — The Regional Water Authority (RWA) has lifted the precautionary boil water advisory for customers on the following streets in Branford:
Residents in the affected area are advised to flush their water systems to clear their plumbing. This includes flushing interior and exterior faucets, showers, water and ice dispensers, water treatment units, and more. To properly flush a residential water system, run a cold water faucet located at the highest point in the house (e.g., a second-floor bathtub) for 5 to 10 minutes to clear out internal plumbing, followed by running individual fixtures.
For detailed instructions on how to flush and clean your home water system, please refer to the Connecticut Department of Health recommendations: https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/Departments-and-Agencies/DPH/dph/drinking_water/pdf/Boil-Water-Notice-Concluded_residential.pdf.
Affected customers were notified by RWA’s Code Red automatic phone notification system. Customers can register for Code Red notifications here: https://www.rwater.com/customer-care/register-for-codered.
The RWA thanks its valued customers for their patience and cooperation as they repaired the water main break, collected water samples, and conducted rigorous laboratory testing to ensure the water is safe to drink.
This advisory was issued on March 21, 2025, due to a 20-inch main break on East Main Street in Branford, which caused a loss of water pressure in the surrounding areas. The RWA responded promptly to isolate the main break from the rest of the water distribution system.
