RWA Releases 2016 Water Quality Report

May 11, 2017

NEW HAVEN, May 11, 2017 – During this Drinking Water Week (May 7-13), the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) has issued its 2016 Consumers’ Annual Report on Water Quality. A federally mandated “report card” designed to educate consumers on what is in their drinking water, the RWA’s water continues to meet or is better than the water quality standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Connecticut Department of Public Health (CTDPH).

“The number one priority of the RWA is to reliably provide high-quality drinking water to our consumers and surrounding communities,” said Regional Water Authority President and CEO Larry Bingaman. “The data from testing done in 2016 provides evidence of our commitment to provide our consumers with a level of confidence that their tap water continues to meet or is better than all federal and state drinking water standards.”

In 2016, the RWA’s highly trained laboratory staff performed more than 110,000 tests on over 10,000 water samples taken from numerous locations throughout its distribution system, within water treatment plants and in the lakes and aquifers that are the sources of water. These samples are brought back to the RWA’s state- and nationally-certified laboratory for microbiological testing, as well as organic and inorganic chemical testing.

The results show that the RWA’s drinking water met all regulatory limits for detected levels of potential contaminants. As a result, the RWA attained a spotless record for drinking water safety and compliance once again in 2016 with no incidents of non-compliance or violations of drinking water quality standards or treatment methods.

“Planning for high-quality drinking water began over a century ago when Eli Whitney II conceived the region’s water system,” said Bingaman. “An enduring part of our heritage today, Whitney’s vision to make life better for people lives on in every aspect of the RWA. Everything we do goes back to our higher purpose which is to make life better for people by delivering high-quality water for life.”

RWA consumers will soon start to receive the 2016 Consumers’ Annual Report on Water Quality in the mail. It is also available on the RWA’s website at www.rwater.com.
