A contractor working on a sewer line damaged a fire service line at Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael Campus on Chapel Street this afternoon. In order to repair the water line, it was necessary to shut down fire service and water (domestic) service to a portion of the hospital and to one building at 330 Orchard Street. The water main break is expected to be isolated by 6:00 p.m. It is estimated that the repair will take six to eight hours. This is an estimate and may change due to field conditions.
The hospital has activated their incident management plan and will be supplying bottled water during the time when water service has been shut off. The New Haven Fire Department is providing a temporary supply of water from another area of the hospital to ensure fire protection during the shutdown of water.
