MainYou Wanna What? Change My Water Meter?

The Regional Water Authority has an active program to change out and replace residential water meters that are 15 years old with modern, easy-to-read meters. There is no charge for this in-home service and it usually takes less than a half hour to complete the installation of the new meter.

The new meters are easy to read by both customers who wish to read them inside their homes and electronically by our meter readers outside. This replacement program is critical in our efforts toward eliminating estimated bills, a common customer complaint.

We compile an annual listing of water meters that need replacement. We then mail letters to the respective homeowners requesting an appointment to change the meter inside the home. If you get that letter, you can either mail back the postcard or call a customer service representative to schedule a convenient time for your meter change-out appointment, including Saturdays. Customers in the New Haven service area can use the self service features found on our telephone system to schedule that appointment. Go to our website for instructions: http://www.rwater.com/consumer-info.

Our employees, especially the field representatives who are responsible for changing the meters, are easy to identify. They wear a company uniform, carry a company-issued photo identification card and drive a clearly marked Authority vehicle.

A Safe Place for Your Waste

MainHazWaste Central is in operation, helping folks protect water quality by safely disposing of household hazardous waste. Located at our headquarters on Sargent Drive in New Haven, HazWaste Central is open from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Saturdays through the end of October. Co-sponsored by the Authority and the South Central Connecticut Regional Council of Governments, HazWaste Central serves almost 6,000 households a year. Some of the household wastes that can be dropped off include aerosol cleaners and sprays, oven and drain cleaners, antifreeze, gasoline, oil-based paint, brake and transmission fluids, bug sprays, and pool chemicals. For more information, visit www.rwater.com and click on HazWaste Central.

MainGot Your Water Quality Report? Did you read yours?

You drink it. Cook with it. Wash the dishes in it. Bathe in it. It’s there every time you turn on the faucet. But do you know where it comes from? How it is protected? Or what’s in it?

You should. And you can. We mailed out over 158,000 copies of our annual Water Quality Report to consumers.

The report shows consumers where the water comes from, explains how the Authority prepares and delivers the water, and also shows the results of water quality laboratory tests. This year, a “Met Regulatory Standards” column provides readers with a quick check of the test results for the treated water coming from the Authority’s lakes and aquifers. This column helps to clearly illustrate that the Authority has met state and federal drinking water standards.

If you haven’t received a copy, please call us at 562-4020 and one of our customer service representatives will send you one, or you can find the report on our website at www.rwater.com/wq2007/.
